Day 13.11

From a lookout a little off the main road the view to the south opens far and wide beneath us. “Oh, wow!” yet again. Just like the coastal cliffs, so is the escarpment. But with the difference that it is met by land rather than water.

At the lookout is an old gentleman with a dusty akubra hat, smoking his pipe. Chewie, who is predominantly a pipe smoker himself and practically lives in his akubra hat (even in the city), strikes up a friendly chat. With his four-wheel drive – which had broken down - towing a caravan adorned with humorous slogans and wisdoms, he and his wife had been on the road for 27 months now. They are on their way around Australia, on their way home. “Someone is coming down from Kalgoorlie. It’ll take them 8 hours to get here, and it’ll cost $3,500. But it’s ok. We’ve got RAC cover.” When Chewie asked if he could take some pictures the reply came “We’ve even been interviewed by some newspapers along the way.”
