Day 12 cont...

We drive off into the sunset. Pun intended.

Sunset over the Great Australian Bight

We arrive at Border Village and go through the Fruit Fly quarantine checkpoint on the border between South Australia and Western Australia. Three clocks hang on the outer wall. Adelaide time, Central time and Perth time. Time is a funny thing when one travels between east and west. Kind of like time travel. Melbourne time according to the clock on our dashboard reads 8.40pm.

The Border Village is famous for two things.

This sign and the highest fuel prices on the Nullabor.

We take on extra fuel at Eucla, 13kms into Western Australia. Have a traditional Aussie meat pie for supper and retire for the night at the caravan park. I saw many copies of the Eucla Cross, erected as a tribute to all travelers that pass by here, on the postcards in the souvenir section of the coffee shop. In fact, I was surprised to see that there were only two or three choices of postcards here with the Eucla Cross featuring in abundance.

The cross is portrayed as welcoming to all land and sea travellers. In fact it is only about 2 meters high and hidden.
