Day 18.22

A reminder of the fragility of this environment. Dieback, a plant disease that thrives in wet conditions, and can easily be spread on the tyres of vehicles or even on the soles of bush walkers’ shoes. The fungus organism known as ‘Phytophthora cinnamomi’ kills plants by destroying their root system.
Bush walkers are advised therefore, to clean mud and soil from their shoes before entering or leaving the park. Vehicle drivers should wash the tyres and the underbody of their car before and after going to a park or reserve along south-western Australia during wet conditions.
