We said our goodbyes to Kalgoorlie-Boulder and head south. We took the alternate route on the way back to Norseman, via Kambalda, to check out what there is still to see. And just a few minutes out of Boulder: "Look!" says Ted, "There’s a bear, no two bears, on that tree." Duly, Chewie pulls over to take an obligatory photo. Ted is happy. And we drive off.
'Look. There's a bear! No, two bears on that tree..."
There are a lot of miles to cover and Chewie has aspirations of making it to Esperance, 384 km away, still today. We hardly settle into the drive when "Look! There’s a clown hanging of that tree. Pull over, pull over. You must take another picture for me." Ted insists, in a way that only he can. Chewie obliges.
'Look! There’s a clown.'
And soon after, obliges again, for there is another bear hanging on another tree.
... another bear
Indeed, every few kilometres Ted persuades Chewie to stop and snap. "There’s a dragon. He could be fun to play with." Ted reminds us that he’s still a playful soul, even for his 47 years and many a stitch.
'There's a dragon.'
"And that poor old guy, with the ‘bananas in pyjamas’, only has one leg. That’s alright fella," Ted sympathizes, "I’ve only got one eye. Children can be so cruel." he adds.
'Ouch'
